Category 1: Metadata Implementation Assistance Projects: Creating data about geospatial data (metadata) is an important first step in implementing the NSDI. These projects focus on acquiring the knowledge and experience to create and serve metadata for clearinghouse discovery. Up to $9,000 per project, 13 awards.

Category 3: Institution Building and Coordination: Projects in this category will enhance multi-jurisdictional organizational and institutional capacity to collaborate and to share digital geographic resources. Sharing geographic information across organizations and jurisdictional boundaries requires reaching agreement on a wide-range of technical, political and financial factors. Adoption of national standards lowers cost and facilitates participation in national programs such as Geospatial One-stop and the National Map. Up to $15,000 per project, 13 awards.

Category 5: Establishing Framework Data Services using OpenGIS Web Feature Service Specification: Projects will serve and use Framework data over the web using the OpenGIS Web Feature Service specification. Projects involve the collaboration of a data provider and a software provider. Web feature service will allow the return of ANSI/INCITS L1 feature data from a web request. Up to $75,000 per project, 6 awards.
