Metadata is essential for interoperability and the proper
management / application of geospatial information. Internationally
standardized metadata promotes this interoperability and the proper use
of geospatial information world-wide. This workshop will provide a
background for metadata – how, why, and where it is used; provide an
overview of the ISO 19115 Geographic information – Metadata standard;
address user, regional, and national profiles; examine the new ISO
metadata standards in our future; and examine metadata use in portals
and spatial data infrastructures.

2:00 PM – 5:00 PM GML and OGC Web Services Workshop - Instructor: Ron Lake
GML and OGC Web Services (WFS, WRS) are playing increasing roles in
a wide variety of both traditional and non-traditional geographic
information applications from location-based services to aeronautical
and oceanographic information systems. This course provides a technical
overview of GML (ISO 19136) including the GML object-property-value
model, the core GML schemas, GML profiles, and the development of GML
application schemas. The use of GML in legacy GIS and database systems,
and in OGC web services will also be covered.
